Best of in SEARCH TERMS: BASSE DEF. éditions B42. p.33

Best of est une série de dessins sur carte à gratter de Clôde Coulpier. Lors d'une résidence en Islande, l'artiste achète des cartes à gratter colorées. Problème : ces nouvelles acquisitions sont préimprimées avec des motifs d'animaux. Le point de départ de Best of est une situation fortuite : l'artiste n'a pas le matériel qu'il veut, c'est à dire vierge. Il décide finalement de faire avec cette contrainte mais de se laisser le choix dans ce qu'il lui est imposé. Il gratte alors uniquement quelques détails de l'image : la mâchoire acérée d'un requin, l'oeil d'un rapace. Il définit l'image en mettant en avant une zone, un morceau choisi qui concentre "le meilleur de la carte à gratter".

Best of is the title of drawings on scratch cards by Clôde Coulpier. During a residency in Iceland, Coulpier bought colored scratch cards. The problem was that his purchases were pre-printed with animal patterns. The point of departure of Best of was therefore a chance situation: the artist did not have the blank support he wanted. But finally decided to make do with this constraint, while allowing himself to decide what would be imposed. He scratched just a few details -or selected parts- of the picture: a shark's sharp jaw, an eagle's eye. He then defined the image by underscoring a zone or detail that represented "the best of the scratch card".
